How to Clean a Horse Stable with a Pressure Washer
Keeping a horse stable clean is essential for maintaining the health and well-being of your horses. A dirty stable can be a breeding ground for harmful bacteria and pests, making it uncomfortable and unsafe for your animals. Using a pressure washer can make this task significantly easier and more efficient. We recommend doing this at least once a year but preferable every 3-6 months. Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning and Disinfecting Horse Stables 1. Stable Preparation Before you begin, make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and get together your cleaning equipment. Remove all horses and feed from the entire horse stable with a wheelbarrow. Muck out the stable with a broom and rake up loose hay, straw, and debris. Also ensure there is proper drainage for the water to flow down from the jet washer. 2. Choose the Right Pressure Washer Settings Select a jet washer model suitable to clean a stable. We recommend a medium to high pressure setting. Ensure you use the appropriate nozzle; a gentle nozzle is typically recommended for general cleaning, while a rough is better for stubborn stains. 3. Apply Detergent to Clean and Disinfect the Horse Stable Using detergent specifically designed for animal enclosures can help break down grime and disinfect the horse stable easily. Nilfisk jet washers often come with a detergent tank, making it easy to apply cleaning solutions evenly. Apply the detergent all over the horse stalls working your way up to avoid streaks. 4. Pressure Wash the Surfaces, Stable Mats and Bedding Start pressure washing the walls, ensuring you cover all areas, including corners and crevices where dirt and bacteria can accumulate. Move in a systematic pattern, overlapping slightly to ensure thorough cleaning. Next, focus on the horse mats and floors. The high-pressure water will help lift and remove built-up grime and waste. 5. Rinse Thoroughly After cleaning with detergent, switch to a clean water setting and rinse all surfaces thoroughly. Ensure no detergent residue remains, as it can be harmful to horses. 6. Dry the Clean Horse Stable Leave the stable open and allow to dry completely before reintroducing horses and new bedding. Proper ventilation and sunny weather can speed up this process. Benefits of Using a Pressure Washer Efficiency: Cuts down cleaning time significantly. Less water use: pressure washers use less water than a standard hosepipe. Effectiveness: Removes stubborn dirt and bacteria, promoting a healthier environment for your horses. Why Choose Nilfisk? Maintaining a clean stable is vital for the health of your horses. Nilfisk jet washers are renowned for their durability, efficiency, and powerful performance. Designed to handle tough cleaning tasks, they are perfect for the rigorous demands of stable cleaning. With various models tailored to different needs, Nilfisk ensures that you get the best results every time.
Expert Cleaning Tips: How to Pressure Wash Your Boat
Prepare to pressure wash your boat Using the Right Pressure One of the most critical factors when pressure washing your boat is using the right water pressure. Too much pressure can harm delicate surfaces like fiberglass or gel coat, while too little pressure may not effectively clean stubborn stains. It's recommended to use a pressure washer with a bar rating between 120-200, and to start with the lowest pressure setting and gradually increase if needed. Use a Detergent Cleaner Selecting the appropriate cleaning substance is also essential for effective boat washing. Use a detergent specifically made for boats such as the boat cleaner - this is formulated to remove salt, algae, and other marine contaminants without harming the boat's finish. Avoid using harsh chemicals or household cleaners, as they can impair the gelcoat or paint. Precautions for Gelcoat Protection Gelcoat is a protective layer on the exterior of fiberglass boats, and it's essential to take precautions to protect it during pressure washing. Avoid using abrasive brushes or scrubbers that can scratch the gelcoat, and be mindful of the pressure washer nozzle's distance from the boat, we recommend 1 metre. Additionally, consider applying a coat of wax or polish after washing to provide extra protection and shine. Inspect for Damage and Remove Loose Equipment Before power washing your boat, inspect it for any signs of damage, such as cracks, chips, or loose fittings. Also ensure you take out any seat cushions, canopies or other removable equipment before getting started. Step by Step: How to Clean the Boat 1. Scrubbing and Brushing with a Pressure Washer Start by scrubbing the dirt off your boat, use soft-bristled scrub brush or sponge attachments to avoid scratching the surface. Work in small sections, applying pressure gently and using overlapping strokes to ensure thorough cleaning. Pay extra attention to areas with heavy build-up, such as the hull or waterline. 2. Apply Detergent If using detergent, dilute it according to the manufacturer's instructions and apply the foam evenly with a Foam Sprayer to the edge of the boat. Let it work for a few minutes to loosen dirt and grime before rinsing. Avoid letting the detergent dry on the surface, as it can leave residue or streaks. 3. Rinse your boat to Remove Detergent After scrubbing and applying detergent, rinse your boat thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining dirt or cleaning solution. Start from the top and work your way down, ensuring that all surfaces are thoroughly rinsed. Pay special attention to hard-to-reach areas, such as under the hull or around fittings and fixtures. 4. Let it Dry -Consider Waxing Your Boat's Hull After washing and drying, consider applying a coat of marine wax or polish to protect the boat's hull and provide a glossy finish. Waxing helps seal the surface, making it easier to clean in the future and protecting against UV damage and saltwater corrosion. Advanced Tips for Power Washing A Boat Using High-Pressure Nozzles and Sprays Effectively Experiment with different nozzle types and spray patterns to find the most effective combination to high-pressure wash your boat. Narrow spray patterns provide more concentrated cleaning power for stubborn stains, while wider patterns cover larger areas more quickly. Preventing Damage to Sensitive Boat Components Be mindful of sensitive components like outboard motors, propellers, bearings and electrics when pressure washing your boat. Use lower pressure settings and keep the nozzle at a safe distance of 1 metre to avoid causing damage. By following these expert tips and techniques, you can power wash a boat effectively and safely, keeping it clean, well-maintained, and ready for your next adventure on the water. Remember to use the right pressure, choose the correct cleaner, and take precautions to protect delicate surfaces and components. With proper upkeep and maintenance, your boat will continue to provide enjoyment for years to come.
How Much Water Does a Pressure Washer Use?
When it comes to cleaning outdoor surfaces like driveways, decks, and patios, many of us reach for the familiar garden hose. However, there's a more efficient and eco-friendly option available: the pressure washer. Not only does it offer superior cleaning power, but it also uses significantly less water than traditional hose pipe methods. How, may you ask? Firstly, it's essential to understand the mechanics of both tools. A garden hose typically delivers water at a steady flow rate, which, while sufficient for basic cleaning, often requires prolonged spraying to achieve satisfactory results. This can lead to excessive water usage, with much of it going to waste as runoff. In contrast, a pressure washer operates by pumping water at a high pressure through a narrow nozzle, producing a concentrated stream. This focused jet of water is incredibly effective at removing dirt, grime, and debris from surfaces with minimal effort. Because of the high pressure, less water is needed to get the same cleanliness as a hose pipe. So, how much water does a pressure washer actually use? Studies have shown that pressure washers can use up to 75% less water than conventional hose pipe methods. This significant reduction in water consumption not only saves a valuable resource but also translates to tangible benefits for both homeowners and the environment. One reason for the water savings is the efficiency of the pressure washer's design. The high-pressure stream allows for targeted cleaning, meaning less water is wasted on areas that don't require attention. Additionally, the force of the water jet helps dislodge dirt and grime more effectively, reducing the need for prolonged rinsing. Track your water consumption The Excellent 180 pressure washer comes with a touch display ‘Smart Assistant’ which tracks water usage in real time. The Smart Assistant also guides you through cleaning tasks and send notifications when maintenance checks are needed. This is great for keeping your pressure washer in tip top condition for many years. Furthermore, pressure washers offer versatility in cleaning tasks, thanks to various nozzle attachments and adjustable pressure settings. Whether you're tackling tough stains on concrete or gently washing delicate outdoor furniture or vehicles, a pressure washer can be tailored to suit your needs, all while conserving water. In conclusion, the use of a pressure washer represents a significant step towards sustainable cleaning practices. By harnessing the power of high pressure washers, homeowners can achieve superior results with a fraction of the water usage compared to traditional hose pipe methods. So, the next time you're faced with a dirty driveway or patio, consider reaching for a pressure washer – not only will you save water, but you'll also enjoy cleaner, more efficient cleaning.

How to clean your car using a high pressure washer
The most efficient method to clean your car is with a high pressure washer, we’ll take you through it step-by-step… How to clean your car using a high pressure washer Did you know you should wash your car every 2-4 weeks to keep it in tip-top condition? Cars are prone to getting dirty from all sorts of things such as bugs, road grit, tree sap, bird droppings, and general wear and tear. During the winter months, your car will be in even more need of a deep clean with higher chances of getting covered in mud in the cold, wet weather. One way to wash your car at home is using a hosepipe and a mop and bucket, but hose pipe pressure levels are quite low and it takes a lot of elbow grease to fully remove the dirt and mud from your vehicle. The most efficient method is to use a high pressure washer to clean your car, we’ll take you through it step-by-step… Step 1 – Spray your car with foam using your high pressure washer Add car wash foam to the detergent bottle/foam sprayer on your high pressure washer and spray the mixture over the exterior of your car - use the pressure setting of around 90 bar (Nilfisk Core setting 3). This foam detergent will help to pull off the thicker pieces of mud from your car, making it easier to clean whilst avoiding any scratches to the paintwork. Step 2 – Rinse off the foam from your car Leave the foam on your car for 5 minutes and then rinse off using the pressure setting of 90 bar and a gentle nozzle on your high pressure washer before it dries. Remember to rinse from top to bottom so that the dirt doesn’t drip down over the parts of the car that you already cleaned! Step 3 – Wash your car with soap Use either a mixture of soap and water mixture or car shampoo to clean your car, you can add this into the detergent bottle and spray all over the exterior. Then, use either a hand cloth or the brush accessory on your high pressure washer to wipe away any particular dirty areas on your car. Don’t forget to clean from top to bottom as the dirtier areas are more likely to be base of your car. Step 4 – Rinse off the car shampoo/soap mixture After another 5 minutes, use the setting of 90 bars on your high pressure washer to rinse the mixture off - this is even more important if the sun is out because otherwise the soap will dry onto your car leaving marks. Step 5 (optional) – Wax your car To get that extra squeaky clean look on your car, use car wax as a final touch. We recommend using the detergent bottle to spray it over the exterior and leave for a further 5 mins before drying off. Step 6 – Dry off your car Once the soap has rinsed away you can either let your car dry naturally or wipe down with a microfibre towel. And there you have it, a beautifully cleaned car done right from the comfort of your home!
5 step guide: How to clean the inside of your car
It’s time to get your car in tip-top condition, here's our step-by-step guide on how to clean the interior of your car. We’ve already shown you how to clean the exterior of your car with a high pressure washer. Today we’re sharing a step-by-step guide on how to clean the interior of your car. We recommend using the Nilfisk premium car kit along with a Wet&Dry vacuum for best results. 1. Clear out any rubbish Have a good tidy up inside your car, making sure there is no rubbish, loose change or other items which you don’t want to end up inside your vacuum cleaner. Don’t forget to check between and underneath the seats. 2. Remove & clean floor mats Remove all car mats, this way you can really clean all the dirt from underneath, as well as a deep clean of the mat itself. First of all, whack the car mats against a hard surface to remove dust. Then vacuum the mats, the turbo nozzle accessory is perfect for this, with its rotating brushes which loosen up the dirt while you vacuum. If your mats are really dirty, you may need to wash them with soapy water to help take off worn in dirt. Vacuum them with your Wet&Dry to get most of the water and dirt out and let them air dry. 3. Vacuum floor & seats Use either a standard vacuum cleaner or better, a Wet&Dry machine with even more power and accessories adapted for car cleaning. Start by vacuuming your seats with an upholstery nozzle, so any dirt which ends up on the floor can be picked up afterwards. Then, use a crevice nozzle which makes it much easier to vacuum right down in-between and underneath the seats. 4. Clean your dashboard Before dusting, we recommend giving plastic surfaces and air vents a vacuum too – use a soft brush accessory on your machine, to ensure you don’t damage these sensitive areas. Then with a microfibre cloth and detergent, wipe down the dashboard, steering wheel, gearstick, centre console and any other plastic surfaces in your car. 5. Wipe down your windows Use one or two microfibre towels and glass cleaner to clean your interior car windows and mirrors. Work in small areas, spraying the detergent onto the glass and wiping away quickly before it dries. Follow up if needed with a dry microfibre towel for a streak-free result.

5 tips for maintaining your high pressure washer
Maintaining your pressure washer is important to ensure that it functions properly and lasts for as long as possible. Here are some tips to help you keep your pressure washer in top condition: 1. Use the right cleaning solution: Different surfaces require different detergents, so be sure to use the right one for the job. For example, you can use a detergent specifically designed for pressure washers to clean your car, while a different one for your patio cleaner accessory. 2. Avoid freezing temperatures: Pressure washers should not be used in freezing temperatures, as the water inside the pump can freeze and cause damage. Luckily Nilfisk products have an aluminium pump and are at less risk of breaking in freezing temperatures. If you need to use your pressure washer in cold weather, be sure to use a solution that is designed to prevent your pressure washer from freezing. 3. Store the pressure washer properly: When not in use, be sure to store your pressure washer in a dry, indoor location. This will help prevent rust and other forms of damage. 4. Keep the nozzles clean: The nozzles on your pressure washer can easily become clogged with debris, which can reduce the pressure of the water and make it less effective. Be sure to regularly clean the nozzle to keep it in good working condition. Nilfisk pressure washers all come with a nozzle cleaning needle, so make good use of it! 5. Replace worn out parts: Over time, the various parts of your pressure washer will wear out and need to be replaced. This is especially true for the high-pressure hose, which is subject to a lot of wear and tear over many years. Be sure to regularly inspect your pressure washer for any worn out parts and replace them as needed. Nilfisk offers a range of replacement and spare parts for pressure washers. By following these tips, you can help ensure that your pressure washer stays in good working condition and continues to function properly for a long time.
5 things to consider when buying a high pressure washer
A high pressure washer can be a valuable investment for cleaning a variety of surfaces, from patios and driveways to cars and outdoor furniture. However, with so many models and features to choose from, it can be difficult to determine which one is the best for your needs. Here are five things to consider when buying a high pressure washer: Purpose: Determine the primary use of the high pressure washer. Are you planning to clean your patio or your car? The type of surfaces you need to clean and the frequency you need to use it, will determine the size and power of the washer you need. Power: Consider the pressure and flow rate of the washer. The pressure is measured in bars and the flow rate is measured in liters per minute. A higher bar pressure and l/minute mean the washer will clean more quickly and effectively. Size and portability: Think about where you will store the high pressure washer and how you will transport it. Consider the size and weight of the machine, and whether you need a model with a folding handle or wheels for easy maneuverability. Accessories: Check what accessories come with the jet washer, such as different nozzles, brushes, and detergent tanks. Some machines comes with additional accessories perfect for cleaning your roof, your patio or your car. Price: High pressure washers can range in price significantly. Consider the features you need and what you're willing to spend. Keep in mind that a higher price may indicate a more durable and powerful washer, but it may not always be necessary for your needs. By considering these five factors, you can find a high pressure washer that will meet your cleaning needs and fit your budget. It's also important to read reviews and compare different models before making a final decision. With a high pressure washer, you can enjoy a powerful and efficient cleaning tool that will make outdoor cleaning tasks easier and more enjoyable.
How to clean your garden patio with a pressure washer
A step-by-step guide on getting your patio spring-ready. The most efficient way to clean your patio is by using a pressure washer, it does not waste as much water as you would when using a normal hosepipe and it gets the job done in half the amount of time. You can use a pressure washer on wooden decking, stones or brick paved patios which are bound together with concrete. However, we don’t recommend using it to clean a block-paved patio, as it will simply wash away all the sand and dirt which binds the bricks together. The strength of a pressure washer is measured in bars, for wooden decking you can use anything up to 130 bars and for stone or brick patios anything up to 140 bars. So let’s get started! 1. Get your patio ready to clean Start with a clear workspace removing any furniture, plants and pots from your patio before you get started. Make sure any items which you don't want to get dirty are kept far away or properly covered. You should use a broom to get rid of any debris such as dead leaves or large clumps of dirt, which will make the job easier. 2. Connect your high-pressure washer to the water supply Most pressure washers can connect to the mains with a simple Gardena connector, press down on the gun lever to make sure the water is flowing freely through your pressure washer before turning on the power. 3. Spray detergent on your patio Mix the Active Stone Cleaner detergent with a 2-5% mixing ratio in your dispenser bottle, spray it on the area and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. This will help to remove any tough stains or worn in dirt from your patio before we start cleaning. 4. Pressure-wash your patio Start at one end of your patio and work your way across the whole surface spraying in one direction and back another. While cleaning, rinse regularly and make sure the water can drain away easily. Start at the opposite side to where the water drains, so that the dirt will not drain back over your freshly-cleaned patio. 5. Patio maintenance After cleaning your patio, the best way to keep it in top condition is to spray on a finishing Stone Sealer Detergent. First, you should wait 1-2 hours until the stone cleaner has dried out. Bear in mind the sand between your tiles may have been moved during cleaning, if that’s the case them use a brush to sweep it back. Spray on your Stone Sealer Detergent using 50% water and 50% detergent in your dispenser bottle, and let it dry out completely over a week. And you're done! Top tip: Use a patio cleaning accessory head to make this process even smoother. The rotary jet nozzles work in a circular fashion to spray a more constant, balanced stream of water.

This will help to break down the dirt and grime, making it easier to clean. Start cleaning: Attach the gentle nozzle to your machine and begin cleaning. Keep the nozzle at distance of around 1m and keep your pressure washer moving to avoid damage to the surface. We recommend using a low bar setting of around 50-100. Clean the bike thoroughly, working your way from top to bottom. Brush off any dirt: Using your brush (either attached to your pressure washer or separately) wipe off any stubborn dirt and rinse your bicycle again. Dry your bike: After rinsing the bike, let it dry completely. You may want to wipe it dry with a microfibre cloth to ensure there are no streaks. Letting your bike dry properly will prevent rust and other damage from developing.
