9 Surprising Things You Can Clean with a Wet & Dry Vacuum Cleaner
When most people think of a vacuum cleaner, they picture the usual suspects: dust, crumbs, pet hair, and maybe the occasional spill. But if you’ve got a wet and dry vacuum cleaner in your home, you’re sitting on a multitasking powerhouse. Here are 9 surprising things you probably didn’t know you could clean with your wet & dry vac — and yes, it’s as satisfying as it sounds. 1. Broken Glass Spilled a glass of water and shattered the tumbler in the process? No problem. Wet & dry vacs can pick up both liquid and sharp fragments — just make sure you empty the tank carefully afterwards. 2. Soil or mud Knocked over a potted plant? Instead of sweeping and smearing mud, your wet & dry vac can clean up both the dry soil and any spilled water, leaving the area spotless (and your plant hopefully still alive). 3. Artificial Grass and Outdoor Patios Wet & dry vacs are amazing for blasting dirt, leaves, and debris from fake grass, patios, or outdoor tiles — especially when combined with a blower function. 4. Car Interiors – Even the Wet Bits Muddy mats, spilled drinks, pet hair, crumbs, and sand from last weekend’s beach trip — all gone in minutes. Wet & dry vacs are perfect for deep-cleaning car interiors, especially when things get messy. 5. Clogged Sinks (Yes, Really!) Some wet & dry vacs can be used to suck out clogs from drains using the home kit— it's a bit unconventional, but it can work wonders on shallow blockages. 6. Flooded Basements or Laundry Rooms Water leak? Washing machine overflow? Grab your wet & dry vacuum and start removing standing water fast — much easier than using mops and buckets. 7. DIY & Renovation Debris Whether you're sanding a wall or working on a craft project, wet & dry vacs can handle fine dust, wood shavings, and even small pieces of plaster or cement. 8. Garden Leaves – Wet or Dry Forget the rake! A wet & dry vacuum with blower function can easily collect or push away fallen leaves, whether they’re dry and crunchy or damp and soggy. Perfect for patios, driveways, and corners where leaves tend to pile up. 9. Kitchen Messes – Wet & Dry From spilled cereal and milk to pasta sauce splashes, your kitchen floor sees it all. A wet & dry vac can deal with wet food, dry crumbs, and even sticky liquids without a fuss. Discover the Power of Versatility Whether you're dealing with muddy boots, scattered leaves, or a surprise kitchen spill, a wet & dry vacuum cleaner is your go-to tool for quick, efficient clean-up — indoors and out. At Nilfisk, we believe cleaning should be smart, simple, and surprisingly satisfying. So next time mess strikes, grab your vacuum and put it to work in ways you never imagined. Happy cleaning!

Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaners are powerful machines which, as the name suggests, can be used to vacuum up both liquids and solids. A little sturdier than your average vacuum cleaner, Wet/Dry machines can be used for a broader range of tasks, both inside and outside your home. This makes it much easier to clean all your spaces in one go. Here are the top 10 reasons why you should get your hands on one right away… Vacuum liquids as well as solids As well as solids, these robust machines can be used to vacuum up liquids such as spilt drinks, a leaking pipe, hot tub water and even floodwater. Vacuum both indoors and outdoors With just one machine, you can clean inside your home as well as outside, anything from carpets to wooden floors and patios to driveways. Unblock drains and sinks We all know how horrible a blocked kitchen sink can be, with the suction function on a Wet/Dry vacuum cleaner, you will be able to unblock it in seconds. Clear away leaves from your garden Use a Wet and Dry machine to either blow away or vacuum up the dried leaves from around your garden. Clean fireplaces Easily clear away all the leftover ash and soot from your fireplace using the suction function. Clean up after DIY tasks Wet&Dry vacuums can handle much more tough dirt such as sawdust and plaster – a fast way to clean up after you’ve finished your handywork. Inflate and deflate objects around the home Blow up airbeds, paddling pools or other inflatable objects at home, and easily deflate them with the suction function. Clean the inside of your car There are a number of Wet/Dry vacuum accessories, specifically made to clean different areas of your car, such as the dashboard, car mats, between the seats and upholstery. Clean upholstery such as curtains and sofas As mentioned above, Wet and Dry machines can be used to vacuum dust from your upholstery and keep your home allergy-free. Vacuum pet hair and animal dirt As well as vacuuming up pet hair from around your home, a Wet and Dry vacuum cleaner can remove mud, sand and general mess from your pets, without the risk of damaging the machine. It’s time to get your car in tip-top condition, here's our step-by-step guide on how to clean the interior of your car. We’ve already shown you how to clean the exterior of your car with a high pressure washer. Today we’re sharing a step-by-step guide on how to clean the interior of your car. We recommend using the Nilfisk premium car kit along with a Wet&Dry vacuum for best results. 1. Clear out any rubbish Have a good tidy up inside your car, making sure there is no rubbish, loose change or other items which you don’t want to end up inside your vacuum cleaner. Don’t forget to check between and underneath the seats. 2. Remove & clean floor mats Remove all car mats, this way you can really clean all the dirt from underneath, as well as a deep clean of the mat itself. First of all, whack the car mats against a hard surface to remove dust. Then vacuum the mats, the turbo nozzle accessory is perfect for this, with its rotating brushes which loosen up the dirt while you vacuum. If your mats are really dirty, you may need to wash them with soapy water to help take off worn in dirt. Vacuum them with your Wet&Dry to get most of the water and dirt out and let them air dry. 3. Vacuum floor & seats Use either a standard vacuum cleaner or better, a Wet&Dry machine with even more power and accessories adapted for car cleaning. Start by vacuuming your seats with an upholstery nozzle, so any dirt which ends up on the floor can be picked up afterwards. Then, use a crevice nozzle which makes it much easier to vacuum right down in-between and underneath the seats. 4. Clean your dashboard Before dusting, we recommend giving plastic surfaces and air vents a vacuum too – use a soft brush accessory on your machine, to ensure you don’t damage these sensitive areas. Then with a microfibre cloth and detergent, wipe down the dashboard, steering wheel, gearstick, centre console and any other plastic surfaces in your car. 5. Wipe down your windows Use one or two microfibre towels and glass cleaner to clean your interior car windows and mirrors. Work in small areas, spraying the detergent onto the glass and wiping away quickly before it dries. Follow up if needed with a dry microfibre towel for a streak-free result.
